This was my first iftar preparation. During the last years, someone has been there to help me around. This time, I was alone. Hubby asked me to make a vegetarian dish, lest his stomach could get upset on the first day of fasting. So I decided to go on with a vegetable kuruma (I don't know the birth place of vegetable kuruma. May be South India, or North India or the middle east) and 'Noolputtu' (a kerala dish).
I cut the vegetables ( a piece of carrot, a potato, a piece of cabbage, a piece of bottle gourd and a piece of capsicum and a tomato) into tiny pieces.
I saughted the tomato along with some curry leaves and chilly ( usually this is not done while preparing kuruma. Its my idea.)

Cooked them with some salt and pepper, poured some coconut milk, put come corn flour and a pinch of Garam Masala. This is how it looked like.

And now for the 'Noolputtu'. I mixed some rice powder and salt with boiling water, and made it into a smooth dough. Then I filled it inside a 'Noolputtu' maker, and pressed it into a plate. Shown below. By the way, 'Nool' in 'Noolputtu' means thread.

The 'Noolputtu' is then steam cooked.

And your 'Noolputtu' is ready!

A yummy iftar!!

Masha'Allah the Noolputtu looks spectacular masha'Allah, you make it sound and look very easy to make... is it?! Nice healthy vegetarian food alhamdu Lillah... did you pour the cooked vegetables over the Noolputtu?
Please post more Indian recipes on your blogs insha'Allah - I love to cook Indian and Pakistani food but need teachers! My only strong point is making chicken Tandoori!
Enikke noolputte thnnan kothiyavane.. :(
How was your kurma? You just showed how it looked like but you didn't mention how it tasted or what your hubby said? ;-)
Najeeba u didn't mention about pakoras and samosas coz without them Aftar has no taste.
Nice dish, assume to be tasty.
Salam Alaikum Najeeba,
Are you currently living in Dubai? Hubby and I want to move (sometime in the future). Do you mind contacting me? I am so curious about family life there.

Hi to everyone. Thanks for your comment.
@strangerinthisduniya: Noolputtu is really a tasty dish with vegetable kuruma. Yup, we pour a little kuruma on the Noolputtu and combine it before eating. Believe me, I think Indian recipes are a little tough to make that the western or arabic recipes. But i feel its tastier.
@sreelal:Kuruma was ok. As i am in the first steps of cooking alone,I think an OK from hubby is a big certificate for me.
@mz: Hope you are satisfied with my second post. the problem is I forget to take the snaps when at cooking. So I can't post the recipes.
@salma:Yup... we are living in Dubai. Its a nice place except for the increasing living costs.
@nish: Thankyou so much for the comment. I sometimes get angry with the food rues here - only veg food on the first day of ramadan and the first day of Shawwal(eidul fitr). But I have to adjust with it.Hihihi.
